Small things that will do me in: I have a clock from IKEA that thrills me with its simplicity. It's a circle of unstained wood with black painted numbers and black metal hands. No glass face, no embellishments, no nothing. And it's lasted for years without faltering. But. The numbers are Roman numerals and the number four is "IIII" when it should be "IV". Sometimes I lie in bed, I stare at it, and I wonder why. Why? why?
